Food Crew

Volunteering on the cook crew is the ideal job for parents, supporters, fans, and friends who want to work hard and spend time during meals with the corps members. The cook crew is responsible for feeding the corps four times a day—breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack after the show. Cooks will have a great chance to get face time with the corps members at all of these meals.

Cook crew is never short of exciting work during the day. From preparing breakfast before the corps awakens to cleaning up after they’ve gone to bed, the food crew always keeps busy. The work is also some of the most rewarding you can do. It’s amazing how you can make a Scout love macaroni ‘n’ cheese after four hours of rehearsal!

We usually depart from the performance site around midnight. We'll travel all night. We usually make restroom stops every 2-3 hours. We arrive at the housing facility early in the morning and sleep a couple hours. The cook crew wakes up about an hour before the corps.

Breakfast usually consists of cereal, pastries, juice, or more elaborate entrées when we have more time for preparation. We clean up and then sit down for a short “cook meeting” to go over the day’s plan.

Grocery runs: We typically send 2 volunteers with the volunteer vehicle; visiting parents, satellite volunteers, and alumni are sometimes available to run for groceries. The remaining crew begins lunch preparation.

Lunch is served, followed by clean-up, and preparation for dinner. The cook crew usually takes a short break in the late afternoon to shower before the members invade the showers.

Dinner is served, followed by clean-up, loading of vehicles, and travel to the stadium. After arrival at the stadium, go in, get a good seat, and enjoy! Usually, just as scores are announced, 1 or 2 cooks go to truck and set up a hearty snack. We depart for the next tour location one hour after the show ends.

      Next day…do it all again!

IMPORTANT: No cooking experience is needed for the cook crew. However, volunteers should be in good physical health and be capable of lifting at least 20 lbs.
